Forgot I had chicken laid out thawing, it set out overnight. Would it be safe to bake or grill it for my dogs?

I mean, obviously I wouldn’t want to eat it now but it would seem that a dogs stomache could handle it if it was baked or grilled… Right? My hubbys parents’ farm dogs bring home dead decaying stuff all the time, and this was just chicken left out a little to long and it will be cooked…… What do you think?

Yes, it should be just fine as long as you cook it.

If you wouldn’t eat it, I wouldn’t suggest feeding it to your dogs.
However, I’ve had no trouble with chicken that I left out overnight.

not the whole thing but in moderation yes i am pretty sure

Dogs eat raw chicken with no problems. Id say boil it and not grill or bake it for them. Boiled chicken is better for dogs. Make sure they don’t get any bones and I’d say it was fine.

Dunno why you’d cook it. Just give it to them raw.
Nope - not a problem at all, in fact, those of us who feed raw often find that the really nasty stuff is what they like best. Lots of dogs will even go burry their meat and let it “age to perfection” before eating if they can.
Honestly, you could leave the chicken out for another night and it still wouldn’t make a dog who’s used to eating raw meat sick.
Because your dogs are not used to getting raw meat, I would suggest only giving them small amounts at a time. Chop it up and put some in the fridge for tomorrow, depending how much there is. If you’re really feeling worried about it, freezing will help kill lots of the bacteria - toss it back in the freezer for a day.

i am positive it;s ok

As long as it was still cold, if it was set out too long at room temp…I would toss it, you don’t want to get or give your pups Salmonella poisoning…sorry…

yeah it will be fine for them they have better stomachs than we do

OH DONT EAT ANIMALS!!
December 3rd, 2009 at 17:14
I would say it is OK - sometimes dogs in the “olden days”
ate old carcasses of animals.

If it smell like its ruin I would not. Othewise as long as you cook it it should be ok. But if your dogs are use to eating only dogfood it may upset their stomack.

I would not risk your dogs health on it.
A hint, a great way to defrost fast, so you don’t leave it on the counter is to have it wrapped in plastic & put it in cold water for about an hour. You don’t want meat to be out of the fridge/freezer for longer than that. Then you can put it in the fridge for the next day or use it immediately.

I’d throw out the chicken, it’s not even good for your dog. No if you want to get salmonella or food poisoning, then eat what you want.
December 12th, 2009 at 12:48
Well, I really don’t know if it would be safe, but sometimes we give our dog a little peice of meat every now and then. ( Even know we are not supposed to, we can’t resist! )
Sorry for wasting your time.
Hope I helped though!
:p

why the hell would you want to give your dogs spoiled chicken? They could end up sick and you’ll have to take them to the vet…. meaning you’ll spend money, when it wasn’t needed.
December 14th, 2009 at 10:48
No worries at all.
As long as you cook the chicken to an internal temperature of 160 F. Degrees or more then you wont have an issue.
December 17th, 2009 at 16:17
if its a chicken ****** it will be fine to bake or grill . i would grill it for then because its better for them

If the smell doesn’t make you automatically want to vomit go ahead and just toss it as is to the dogs. One night out isn’t going to hurt them and they will more than likely love you for it.
If its boneless just take it outside and give a portion to each dog.
If there are bones give them each their own portion but WATCH your dogs and make sure they actually chew and break up the bones.
December 22nd, 2009 at 04:18
Yes sure make sure the bones are taken out

look, if you took the chicken out last night before going to bed and found it this morning, then it is fine. My hubby always defrosts his sausages for breakfast overnight and then cooks them and eats them. Nothing wrong with it unless it has been out of the freezer for like a day and a half, then I would thow it away because by then it would smell anyway.
But make sure you cook it before eating it yourself or giving it to the dogs!!

my train of thought on what I feed my dog or how I feed them.
If I wouldnt eat it… I wouldnt feed it to my dog.
I dont want my dog sick nor do I want my dog eating rotten things.
I dont want them sick any more than they are normally.
Rotten food will make them sick, and will get them a trip to the vet.
I wouldnt feed chicken set out to long to my dogs.
GOOD LUCK

It would be better for your dog raw.
December 29th, 2009 at 07:31
My rule of thumb: If it isn’t safe for me, it isn’t safe for my dogs.

i wouldnt give it to my dogs after that long that is just because i never cook meat for my dogs and raw meat sitting out like that would probobly get them sick but if you actually cook it im sure it will be fine.

No it is not safe for your dogs. When in doubt throw it out.
