ANY ANSWERS PLEASe?

im having my baby tomorrow and i have been very bad sick lately coughing my head off and just being miserable at night time…. last night it was very bad and i had an old prescription of cough syrup with hydrocodiene in it ( or whatever that stuff is) anyway i know that i probably shouldnt have taken it and my baby seems to be moving around and acting the sme but i was wondering if they would give me a drug test.. because im pretty sure that cough syrup has the same stuff as lortab in it… im scared to death that theyll give me a drug test and take my baby away… does anyone know if they will give a drug test or what states do this? i live in AL. thanks…
yes yopergoo (wtfever your name is) i have been taking ” cough syrup” i am not a drug addict and would never try to harm my baby, and yes i am worried because is it my baby for christs sake.

Geez for taking “cough medicine” you seem really worried about them testing you for drugs. I have never heard of a hospital testing you for drugs but then again I do not have a drug history. Have you been tested previously during this pregnancy?

they drug test for the heavy stuff. dont worry. i was on percocet from 6 months up til the day i delivered because of kidney problems. and she is perfectly fine. There are some pregnant women who are on narcotics due to health problems.

I dont think you will have a problem…If by some chance they do check you out for drugs then all you have to do is tell your doctor that you took some old meds you had because u were not feeling too well.. ususally the only way they will take your baby..is if you have used them your whole pregnancy and have been harming the unborn baby…but i dont think you have to worry about a one time thing

Unfortunately, I don’t live in the US and don’t know the rules there.
But unless you have been taking illegal drugs, I don’t think there would be a problem. I don’t think you would even be tested for drugs - you’re not a winning Olympic athlete.
If you have been taking drugs, please stop. Think of your baby’s needs, and your own, and find help.

they generaly don’t give you a drug test unles you give them a reson to… and even thou you probly shoud not have taken any thing with the word codiene in it they will not take your baby away for taking over the counter meds….the few days before birth you tend to get sick a lot… if you are worried about your baby call your dr and tell him what you took if he feels you need to be seen to check on the baby he’ll have you go in. check this web site for a list of meds that is safe to use…

they dont test you for drugs unless u are a druggie i think…i was never even asked if i had used drugs during my pregnancy i guess they just assume that you know better…are u sure it is just cough suryap you are worried about?

I don’t think they do drug test on expecting mothers unless they have a reason. If I were you I would tell them that you took it. I doubt that you took enough to really hurt your baby anyway. You would probably have to take alot of that to affect your baby at this point in time.

unless they have any reason to suspect you are a habitual drug user, I wouldn’t imagine they would give you a drug test.
Try to relax. In the future, you shouldn’t take cough syrups during your pregnancy. Try ******* on some hard candy to help soothe your throat instead.

um i dont think they do and one of my friends was given lortab when she was preg so you should be ok but when you go in i would ask and just tell them you didnt know just in case something dose go wrong they know what might of caused it

I can’t believe how many naive people there are out there. YES, they drug test newborns, and will take a baby away from it’s mother if the test is positive. In your case, I believe they won’t take the baby away because you only took it once or twice, the concentration won’t be as high in your baby’s system. If you have been taking it your whole pregnancy, it will show, and the doctors would be concerned. Also, tell the doctor that you took cough meds, because hydrocodone is used in pain meds as well. They might think you have a problem if you don’t speak up. Good luck and hope the delivery goes well!

Just let the labor and dilivery nurses and doctors know that you were taking this and what it was for. You should be fine, quit stressing, no one is going to take your baby away. I fyou were a drug addict they would have know it long ago with all your other prenatal testing.
